Every year on March 8, we celebrate the achievements of women. However, do you know how the date was decided? The story is dated back to 1917 after women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia; March 8 became a national holiday. Since then, this day was predominantly celebrated by the communist countries and socialists movement until in 1967 it was adopted by the feminist movement. In 1977 the United Nations recognized the day and started celebrating the day as International Women’s Day. Women of the world want and deserve an equal future free from stigma, stereotypes and violence; a future that’s sustainable, peaceful, with equal rights and opportunities for all. To get us there, the world needs women at every table where decisions are being made.

We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.
From challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to challenge.
GECPD has celebrated the Commemoration of International Women’s Day 8 March since 1999 where women came to gather to appreciate the Achievements they Made, Share challenges, limitations and barriers they face, share ideas to overturn all those challenges and look ways that they can address as a women issue.
