Human Rights
GECPD is committed to creating a more inclusive and equal society for all Somalis, with a particular focus on women, girls, and marginalized groups. Our efforts in this area encompass several key focus areas:
1. Social Protection
- We run awareness campaigns on gender-based violence (GBV), highlighting the health risks and human rights violations associated with Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and other harmful social norms.
- Our safe shelters provide protection and essential support services for survivors of GBV and those at risk.
- We offer psychosocial support and counselling to help survivors of human rights violations heal and rebuild their lives.
2. Civic and Human Rights
- We advocate for laws and policies that protect and promote women's rights at both local and national levels.
- Our programs encourage and enable women's participation in political processes and community decision-making.
- We conduct human rights education, with a strong focus on the rights of women and children.
3. Capacity Building
- We provide training to local authorities, community leaders, and stakeholders on gender-sensitive and rights-based development approaches.
- Our programs strengthen women and youth organizations to advocate effectively for their rights and engage in community development and decision-making.
4. Youth Empowerment
- We run leadership development programs for young women and men to nurture their potential.
- Our youth centers serve as safe spaces for skills development, mentorship, and recreation.
- We support youth-led initiatives that address local challenges and drive positive change.
Through these multi-faceted approaches, we are working to create a Somalia where every individual's rights are respected, protected, and upheld.
